What Death has to teach us about life?
Palliative care is a section in the hospital where people with terminal illness live the reminder of their lives looking for a peaceful death. People often grow quickly when they are facing the imminent death, a date with the creator.
Top 5 Regrets of Dying People
A nurse in a palliative care recorded the top 5 Regrets of the dying people and it is incredible:
1) I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.
2) I wish I didn’t work so hard.
3) I wish I’d had the courage to express my feelings.
4) I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends.
5) I wish that I had let myself be happier.
Almost every regret here seems to be for things that were not done. No body seems to have said I wish I had more money. I wish I had got that promotion or become the CTO, dined in 5 star hotel, bought the latest iphone, or the diamond necklace on the counter. All the things we apparently seem to work for day in and day out dissipate in the face of death.
My Story
For a long time I kept telling myself, I wish I could travel more and then did nothing. But once we put it as our priority and put a date on it, we started taking actions towards the goal. We made a plan – plan for financials, travel and rest and then put it to action. Now I am indeed living my dream of travel. #India360.
Good things don’t happen to those who wait, it happens to those who take action.
Don’t wait for your children to fulfil your dreams, fulfil them yourselves. Don’t wait to take that trip to see Northern Lights or Paradise Falls, until you are too old to even walk.
If you are not willing to prioritise what you want and sacrifice for it, what you want becomes the sacrifice.
Live your life in a way that, when it is time to go you do not have any regrets.
Don’t just exist,
Live, thrive, Be happy, Celebrate.
Life is too short for regrets.
What would you regret in your death bed ?
Better to look foolish and laugh about it trying something and getting it wrong, rather than kick yourself for not trying at all. No regrets!
